The REAL Social Service

Do you feel you hold some responsibility towards serving the poor and needy?

Do you think Spirituality has any role to play in Social Service?

Does charity mean offering food and clothes or donating money to the poor?

Divine Light:Hello! It’s Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan (Divine Light Awakening Mission) online… standing with open arms to welcome the true seekers of God, people, who wish to see God!

Mr. A
: What will happen by seeing God? I wud recommend that it’s much better if u go out and help those tens of thousands of poor & needy living, rather, dying on roads… feed them with basic necessities so that they r not forced to bid a torturous farewell to their own lives in the arms of poverty & hunger!

Divine Light: We really appreciate ur noble feelings, ur pain for the state of the society & definitely agree to what u say! But, do you think that such help alone wud bring colors to their lives? Wud this really change the dismal state of the society??

Mr. A: Of course yes! Why not? The society today is in dire need of such social activities and activists!

Divine Light: But, how do u assure that the social help offered in the form of food & clothing wud be a substantial answer to their problems?

Mr. A: Why not?

Divine Light: Ok, u serve a person with food once… Won't he need it again? The clothes offered by u wud need to be replaced by new ones after some time, won't they?

Mr. A: That's right! Butttt… something is better than nothing… u see! At least one can extend some amount of help to the needy!

Divine Light: OK …in that case, why not then serve them in toto? Why restrict to just doing 'something' for the needy?

Mr. A: What do u mean? I am unable to peg my understanding to your views…

Divine Light: Hey friend … we only mean to say that real 'Social Service' demands 'Soul Service' first, as the basis to stand!

Mr. A: I don't get u!

Divine Light: Basically, the giver and the receiver, both shud bear a connection with God… Only then, the social help extended can work wonders for both the giver and the taker!

Mr. A: How do u say that? What's the logic behind it?

Divine Light: OK, let’s first talk about the necessity of the spiritual connection on the receiving end… It is essential so that the person in need is able to fully avail ur services! Because, if he is lacking the basic zeal, the spirit to change his fate, then in that case ur help wud not make any difference। That what shud precede social help of any kind is the basic current of liveliness! Zeal! A spirit to change oneself… to stand on one's feet!

Mr. A: U r right! I agree! But…how???

Divine Light: Well, there's only one-way for that– to see God, within oneself!

Mr. A: Ummmm… by seeing God???

Divine Light: Yes, definitely! Becoz, seeing God means establishing one to one connection with the Divine Light within, the energy keeping us alive! The permanent connection with this perennial source of energy means a 24 hr charging… Charging oneself with enthusiasm, zeal, bliss, & prudence!

Mr. A: Whatever u say sounds quite appealing … and, how is this spirituality essential for the other side, i.e., the one who is doing social service? Well…becoz, if he is involved in such noble work, it is for sure that his outlook towards life is not dull and lethargic!

Divine Light: Right! Let's understand the justification of the need for a spiritual (soul) connection at the donor's end as well…… Suppose a man is going somewhere & he happens to see on the way a very poor man, in torn and tattered clothes… asking for alms! What do u think the man will do?

Mr. A: He wud give him some money!

Divine Light: Correct! But, to his utter surprise……rather, a dreadful shock, while returning in the evening, he happens to find the same man lying dead and surrounded by some people. On inquiring, he comes to know that the beggar drank (cheap & poor quality) liquor with all the money he had collected & hence the result!

Mr. A: But, then what shud one do? Do u intend to say that one shud not serve the poor?

Divine Light: No…of course not! Becoz, what if the beggar is actually hungry from days together… ur money may lend him a new lease of life!

Mr. A: Ya, u r right! I m getting what u r trying to say… that one needs to possess the power of discrimination or wisdom! Isn't it??

Divine Light: Absolutely! One needs an eye of wisdom to make the right judgment! And, that is what spirituality offers! Becoz, by the grace of a True Spiritual Guru, ur connection with the Lord is re-established! And, the one who is the guide of the entire Universe, the Supreme Judge, free from all sorts of errors and flaws, perfectly prudent, with such a Judge/Master seated on the judgment seat, how can ur decisions go wrong?

…No chance of landing into trouble or a sorry state!
… There's one more hidden aspect!

Mr. A: What's that?

Divine Light: What will happen if a seed is thrown into fire?

Mr A:It will burn! Destroyed forever! Will never sprout!

Divine Light: 100% correct! So, cud u deduce from this the hidden benefit from spirituality?

Mr. A: Not really!

Divine Light: Exactly the same is the fate of the Karmic seeds of our (the needy's) past deeds, due to which one actually has to bear such misery & poverty। They (bad karmas) meet their end when exposed to the fire of Divine Knowledge! Hence, the clutches of tortures and miseries are let open! Making the person free forever! …That's why, we said– a Permanent solution!

Mr. A
: Oh! I m enriched after this eye-opening chat! Thanks! U r right in saying that one should not restrict to just 'something'; rather, serve in totality, by keeping spirituality at the base!… Now, for me to march ahead towards this completeness… I request u to please let me know how??

Divine Light: U r most welcome to any of our branches any time! They r open for one & all… Always!
